Discovery and access
Metadata can be discoverable while files remain governed
Users may be able to search approved dataset records before downloading files. Download, protected details, and controlled access workflows require sign-in and may require review.
Visible catalog information may include
- Dataset title and public summary
- System categories, descriptors, and modalities
- Institution and access level when approved for display
- External repository links when allowed
- Review or availability status in user-facing language
Protected actions
Some actions require sign-in or approval
Access conditions are tied to the dataset record. Public records, controlled records, repository links, and downloadable files may have different permissions.

Reuse expectations
Reuse depends on context, provenance, and permissions
Data are most useful when users understand how they were generated, what metadata are available, what access conditions apply, and how the resource should be cited.
Expected practices
- Respect access conditions and dataset permissions.
- Cite datasets, contributors, and versions when available.
- Preserve provenance and context when reusing data.
- Do not redistribute controlled data outside approved conditions.
- Report errors or missing metadata when identified.
